“'Suave y Pegao' came to me as a revelation at 3:33 in the morning," Dayme explains. "It was in a dream, the same night in which I had discovered that there are reggaeton musicians that listen to rumba. We come from the same matrix.”

"I really enjoyed working with Daymé because she is a super talented and versatile artist," Rafa shares. "We both come from two very different worlds, but in this collaboration there is a fusion of bossa nova and jazz with a more urban side, and they end up fitting together very well. 'Suave y Pegao' is a perfect combination between these genres."

"Suave y Pegao" previews Dayme's upcoming album which was produced by the acclaimed Puerto Rican artist Eduardo Cabra (Calle 13), three-time winner of the Latin GRAMMY for "Producer of the Year."

"I’m proud to say that Dayme is the most talented person I have ever worked with," Eduardo says. "It was a bold and tender move for Dayme to choose this experiment just as she was settling in her new life in Puerto Rico."

"Suave y Pegao" follows the recent single "Para Mover Los Pies" which was spotlighted in The New York Times "Playlist." "Para Mover Los Pies" is an ode to Dayme's new home of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It fuses local Boricua rhythms with Cuban traditions.

Dayme Arocena is a highly skilled singer / songwriter / producer and powerhouse band leader. At home, she was immersed in the folkloric and religious music of Cuba, Dayme describes every surface of their home being scuffed from the constant tapping of rhythms. As a young woman she gained interest in Santeria (a syncretic religion unique to Cuba) and still practises to this day. First drawn in by the music - dancing and singing are very much part of the religion's rituals and celebrations. Studying at the prestigious Conservatory Amadeo Roldan, by the age 20 she was touring internationally with the Cuban-Canadian all female jazz group Maqueque.

Dayme soon came to the attention of British DJ and Broadcaster Gilles Peterson on his frequent trips to Cuba (as part of a collaboration with the Havana Cultura platform). He offered a record deal on a trip to London within a few days she had recorded her debut album 'Nueva Era' for Brownswood Recordings. The record was released to immediate critical acclaim – including being listed as one of NPR's top albums of the year. Her second studio album 'Cubafonia' explored classic Cuban rhythms, whilst her self-produced third album 'Sonocardiogram' saw Daymé return to her sonic roots in Havana.
